David Bertorelli

As an established member of the team, David excels in supporting all aspects of assisted bathing and accessible bathroom design. His educational background in product engineering, ergonomics and biomechanics gives him theoretical expertise which he combines with practical know-how when specifying specialist baths. Add to this architectural and project management experience, David is able to recommend holistic bathroom solutions that provide safety and comfort for disabled bathers, families and carers. He is proven to successfully support Occupational Therapists so that the pressures of everyday practice are reduced.

Since joining Abacus in 2012, David has achieved positive outcomes for high numbers of families:

“My mission is to always improve every situation. My role rewards are seeing the results of my knowledge applied correctly, hard work and diligence – culminating in a quality, appropriate solution for enhanced wellbeing.”

David’s Abacus career highlights to date include clinical assessments for DIY SOS bath donations, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. David has also been instrumental in the development of the leading Gemini 2000 platform bath which won the prestigious
OT Show Excellence in Caring Award – the pinnacle of his achievements so far.

In terms of value to healthcare professionals David says:

“Quite simply, I listen. I listen to all involved and use what I have heard like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. I then put them together carefully to get a full and open picture of what challenges are faced, this then gives me a clear idea of what we as a team have to solve. I take pride in my determination to never give up on the best outcome. Abacus has a world-leading product range supported by a caring, pro-active team. We only work with the best quality partners so the whole process, from initial assessment, installation and after care, is efficient and hassle free for clients and supporting professionals.”

Ryan Wilkes

Ryan is the most recent member to join the team and brings a wealth of healthcare experience to the clients and Occupational Therapists we support. With many years working in diabetes diagnostics and audiology, Ryan is fully versed in supporting healthcare professionals and is now providing bathing assessments, demonstrations and education so that the individual needs of disabled adults and children are met.

Ryan is a passionate individual who finds his role highly rewarding:

“I always appreciate the life changing journey Abacus customers experience when specialist baths are introduced at home.

It is fantastic to be part of this story and to make a difference, I go home extremely satisfied each week. The many Occupational Therapists I engage with on a regular basis are always positive about Abacus baths which is fantastic as it reflects the quality of the brand. My mission will never waiver – to deliver a reliable service and to go the extra mile for all Occupational Therapists and families, as I have done throughout my working life.”

As with the other Abacus Regional Assessment Managers, Ryan is equipped with a demonstration vehicle which houses a selection of Abacus baths in a bathroom setting. This vehicle provides a convenient opportunity for professionals and clients to test and trial powered assisted baths with height adjustment and transfer seats. Whether individual client assessments or group seminars are needed, Ryan can facilitate a demonstration platform at any location. Equally online webinars can be broadcast from the vehicle providing a Covid-19 risk free alternative.

Outside of work Ryan is busy with his four small children and keeping fit. When possible he trains at the gym and has completed several ‘Tough Mudder’ type endurance events for charity.
