David Bertorelli

As an established member of the team, David excels in supporting all aspects of assisted bathing and accessible bathroom design. His educational background in product engineering, ergonomics and biomechanics gives him theoretical expertise which he combines with practical know-how when specifying specialist baths. Add to this architectural and project management experience, David is able to recommend holistic bathroom solutions that provide safety and comfort for disabled bathers, families and carers. He is proven to successfully support Occupational Therapists so that the pressures of everyday practice are reduced.

Since joining Abacus in 2012, David has achieved positive outcomes for high numbers of families:

“My mission is to always improve every situation. My role rewards are seeing the results of my knowledge applied correctly, hard work and diligence – culminating in a quality, appropriate solution for enhanced wellbeing.”

David’s Abacus career highlights to date include clinical assessments for DIY SOS bath donations, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. David has also been instrumental in the development of the leading Gemini 2000 platform bath which won the prestigious
OT Show Excellence in Caring Award – the pinnacle of his achievements so far.

In terms of value to healthcare professionals David says:

“Quite simply, I listen. I listen to all involved and use what I have heard like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. I then put them together carefully to get a full and open picture of what challenges are faced, this then gives me a clear idea of what we as a team have to solve. I take pride in my determination to never give up on the best outcome. Abacus has a world-leading product range supported by a caring, pro-active team. We only work with the best quality partners so the whole process, from initial assessment, installation and after care, is efficient and hassle free for clients and supporting professionals.”

Duncan Latimer

Bathers, families and healthcare professionals all benefit from Duncan’s 16+ years in the assistive equipment sector. The last three years have seen him expand his extensive expertise at Abacus by assessing and providing assisted bathing solutions that improve occupational tasks in the community. He continues to achieve significant positive outcomes for disabled bathers however one of his main achievements has been involvement with the Gemini 2000 team who won the OT Show Excellence in Caring Award 2019.

Duncan aims to ensure that Abacus has “a good solid portfolio of products going forward that allows everyone the right to access bathing facilities.” He believes, irrespective of ability, all bathers should benefit from bathing and its therapeutic properties. Keeping both carers and bathers safe is also a top priority – on many levels from moving and handling to infection control.

Occupational Therapists who work with Duncan respect his attention to detail, empathy and understanding of client needs. He is renowned for working successfully with healthcare professionals thanks to a ‘like-minded’ approach that focuses on delivery of the most appropriate bath every time. He sees Abacus as first choice for power-assisted, accessible baths as the brand is valued in the sector and manufactured by an established UK specialist.

Duncan also takes pride, as does the whole Abacus team, in finding the right bathing solution for complex needs – products that ultimately enhance quality of life, safety and happiness.

“I always appreciate the life changing journey Abacus customers experience when specialist baths are introduced at home.

It is fantastic to be part of this story and to make a difference, I go home extremely satisfied each week. The many Occupational Therapists I engage with on a regular basis are always positive about Abacus baths which is fantastic as it reflects the quality of the brand. My mission will never waiver – to deliver a reliable service and to go the extra mile for all Occupational Therapists and families, as I have done throughout my working life.”

Equally online webinars can be broadcast from the vehicle providing a Covid-19 risk free alternative.
