Session focus
Bathing is more than just hygiene, it’s a vital occupation that can support dignity, comfort, and well-being. For occupational therapists, care settings and case managers, choosing the right bathing solution involves balancing safety, manual-handling demands, user engagement, and sometimes multi-user needs.
This CPD webinar will explore the clinical considerations, environmental challenges, and practical solutions for specifying baths in shared or multi-use settings. We’ll use the Gemini MX bath as a case study to illustrate how certain design features can support both clients and caregivers in delivering safe, meaningful bathing experiences.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Explain the clinical importance of bathing as an occupation and its role in physical comfort, sensory regulation, and quality of life.
- Identify key considerationswhen assessing for a bathing solution in a multi-use or shared care environment, including infection control, adjustability, and transfer safety.
- Compare different types of bathing equipment and describe how design features can reduce caregiver strain, minimise transfers, and maximise client independence.
- Analyse a case study (Gemini MX bath) to understand how specific features might meet the needs of diverse users, including children, adults, and those with complex needs.
- Apply an evidence-based approach to specifying bathing solutions, taking into account funding routes, installation constraints, and long-term adaptability.
